Project Background and Priorities

The landlocked Law Enforcement Center in Woodbury County was located downtown near the Courthouse. After careful evaluation of the multiple deficits in function, MEP systems, and capacity requirements, it was determined that this facility could not be cost-effectively renovated.

Solution

GGA worked with County officials and developed a plan for a new off-site facility to be co-allocated between the County and the City of Sioux City. The new facility addresses Law Enforcement and Judicial needs along with Mental Health Services. A site on the edge of town was selected. With a 121,000-square-foot floor plan, the new facility includes 448-beds, additional beds for special needs and psychiatric housing, five courtrooms with jury capabilities and all judicial court services, and prosecutors’ offices for criminal divisions.
