MARION COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER
The 1999 award of Marion County’s 124-bed County Jail and Sheriff’s Department marked GGA’s first Illinois detention project in five years. Located near the County Courthouse downtown, the Marion County exterior is designed to blend in with adjacent public architecture and allow for future expansion.
Marion County’s new facility illustrates why a compact, radial/podular GGA design works efficiently even on tight sites requiring mid-rise construction. By carefully planning the elevator, kitchen and visitation areas within visual supervision from central control, little, if any, additional staff is required, compared to a low rise concept.
Marion County’s design also utilizes metal cells with the most advanced vandal-resistant coatings to minimize future maintenance and provide a more economical building envelope.
