Coffey County Law Enforcement Center

COFFEY COUNTY NEW COLORSCOFFEY COUNTY NEW COLORS

Project Background and Priorities

GGA was retained by Coffey Co., KS. in 2019 to analyze the County’s Law Enforcement needs and develop viable options for replacing the outworn facilities currently located at the west end of the Courthouse.

Solution

Initially, GGA was tasked with planning a new, freestanding Justice Center, to be located on property adjacent to State Highway 75, just outside Burlington, the County Seat.

However, given the scarcity of available sites and likely construction costs, the County officials changed the direction of the project by directing GGA to plan a phased project with a new 92-bed Law Enforcement facility as Phase One, and renovations to the vacated Courthouse Jail & Sheriff’s offices as Phase 2.

A larger, second Courtroom, second Judge’s Chambers, revamped Jury room, and additional storage space will be included in Phase 2.
