CHEROKEE COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER
Goldberg Group Architects was retained to design a new law enforcement center to replace the county’s outdated, overcrowded jail, located on the top floor of the courthouse in Columbus, KS.
The facility utilized GGA’s radial-podular design with several notable features:
• Physical connection of housing control to central control, reducing a customary 2 post operation to 1 – 1/2 posts
• An ancillary housing wing providing for separation of work-release from the general jail population, reducing contraband
• Flexible space strategically located near the front for multiple uses such as staff conferences and squad meetings, as well as for court hearings and video arraignment
