Pemiscot County Justice Center

Project Background and Priorities

Replace a 50-year-old facility on a site selected for the project across the street from the County Courthouse to minimize prisoner transportation to court. The site posed several challenges in terms of poor soil, high moisture content from the nearby Mississippi River, and highly restrictive seismic requirements.

Solution

Construct a new Jail and Justice Center. GGA responded by designing a compact, 136-bed, multi-custody Justice Center on deep-pier foundations. The center includes jury courtroom facilities, judge’s chambers, a law library, and prosecutors and child-support offices. The building exterior utilizes buff and rosette masonry with cut stone trim at the entry to blend with the adjacent Courthouse.
