Miami County Detention Center

Project Background and Priorities

Miami County Jail, located in the County Courthouse, was too small to continue to meet the needs of the County. The replacement of the outdated and overcrowded Jail became a priority, preferring that the new facility remain downtown close to the existing historic Courthouse while resolving the need for increased parking.

Solution

GGA assisted County officials in locating the project across the street from the County Courthouse, connected by an underground tunnel. The project’s exterior takes visual cues from the County’s historic Courthouse, with matching materials, arched windows, and entry tower. GGA assisted the County in developing two important memorials near the new project – one for Fallen Officers and the other for First Responders. Additional properties were assembled to resolve the long-standing parking shortage.
