Saginaw County Officials Break Ground For New Jail
A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Saginaw County Adult Detention and Sheriff Administration Building Monday, May 21.
The new 87,000 square foot facility will be located at Harrison and Adams Avenues in the city of Saginaw across the street from the current jail and is slated to be finished in about 18 months. It will feature 511 beds and a hub design instead of the traditional linear design, meaning there will be less staff required for its operation. The design also creates a safer space for both staff and inmates.
Sheriff William Federspiel says the $35.8 million jail will be built at no additional cost to taxpayers.
