New County Jail Plans Get Saginaw Planning Commission OK
SAGINAW, MI — Residents of the Heritage Square neighborhood were uneasy about the proposed site plan for the new Saginaw County jail, but after nearly an hour of deliberating, a guarantee of a fence eased their minds.
The guarantee of a 4- to 6-foot-high fence built along Webster Street and blended in with the historic Heritage Square neighborhood, mended the fences during the City Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
Commissioners unanimously approved the site plan submitted by Goldberg Group Architects and Spence Brothers at Tuesday night’s meeting. Several residents voiced their opinions about the jail bringing foot traffic, difficult parking situations and safety concerns into their neighborhood.
