County Nailing Down Plans for New Jail
Prep work on Dickinson County’s new jail project continues to move forward.
In recent weeks, county officials, local judges and sheriff’s department personnel met with representatives from Goldberg Group Architects (GGA) to nail down final plans.
“It went very well,” said County Administrator Brad Homman, noting the plans are several inches thick.
“They (GGA) are about 50 percent through the mechanical part of it, which is normal for about this stage of the game,” he said. “We’ll be ready to put the bid out the first of the year.”
The public hearing concerning the vacation of Court Street is scheduled for Nov. 26 during the Abilene City Commission meeting. Court Street runs for one block between the courthouse and the Dickinson County attorney’s office. The new jail will sit in that area.
